A sketch on paper with Grip Graphite Pencil

For today’s tutorial, I chose to draw a tree with mushrooms growing from its trunk, one that’s on my street. Pick a subject that has a variety of texture to it.

Start with a light sketch of outlines using the Grip pencil.

With the Black Extra Superfine tip Pitt Artist Pen, define the mushrooms.

When you draw anything with texture, pay close attention to the patterns. On this tree trunk, I could see dots, dashes and small squares and rectangles.

The bark of the tree looked chipped and ready to crumble - I represented that texture with stacks of irregular squares and rectangles. Then there were spaces where the bark had altogether disintegrated leaving the raw trunk exposed and those were marked by vertical dashes

Create some visual depth by adding more layers of ink with the Pitt Artist Pen so the mushroom clusters stand out from the tree trunk.

Add some colors with Goldfaber Color Pencils in of browns, greys and greens.

I hand-lettered some notes to my sketch, also with the Pitt Artist Pen.

I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial with Pitt Artist Pens and Goldfaber Color Pencils. Study and re-create textures from around you with Pitt Artist Pens and accent them with colors using Goldfaber Color Pencils.
